INTEGRATIVE SITE ANALYSIS

BRINGING THE WISDOM OF YOUR SITE TO LIFE

ECOLOGICALLY-attuned strategies for architectural and site planning endeavors

Our network of experienced biologists, designers, and process specialists collaborate closely with your built environment team to understand, interpret, and ultimately draw design inspiration from the ecology of a project's site.

Our goal is to empower designers to do their best and most innovative work with key ecosystem insights drawn directly from the site.

REMOTE Analysis

Photographs, GIS maps, and to-scale site models allow the design team to immerse themselves in the project context

IN SITU ANALYSIS

On-site research, data collection, handheld & drone photography, and reference habitat study are critical to uncovering the design team's unique opportunity for ecological integration

Actionable Outcomes

With exciting and insightful results for landscape, architectural, and engineering application, our work effectively empowers the design team to make a restorative impact

STRATEGIC ECOLOGICAL STEWARDSHIP

A POWERFUL SYNTHESIS OF INTENTION, ECOLOGY, & ECONOMICS

LONG TERM ECOLOGICAL ASSET MANAGEMENT WITH A SMART BUSINESS BACKBONE

We integrate the human intention for the project with the ecological potential of the site.  This is accomplished through a specialized process starting at the owners' level at the project onset along with the selected design team.

Fundamental Alignment

Harvesting and integrating the vision and goals for the site's ecological, social, and business performance.

Design, construction & operations Phase Integration

Collaborating with the design team to embed key ecological priorities in alignment with project goals.

Ensuring minimal impact to the natural capital of the site during construction and generating the construction phase activity guidelines.

Guiding the site management operations practices in accordance to the ecological needs of the site .

ECOLOGICAL IMMERSION WORKSHOPS

AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE OF DESIGN INSPIRED BY THE INGENUITY OF THE NATURAL WORLD

Breathe in inspiration.  Breathe out ideation.

This workshop experience is intended for those that value innovation as well as sustainability and would like to learn to accomplish both simultaneously.

Led by our experienced team, this workshop builds the bridge between ecology and design.

Juan Rovalo.jpg

Juan Rovalo, Principal

Juan is the founder and key principal of In Site and a highly skilled biologist whose strength lies in his ability to work with interdisciplinary teams in diverse cultural and ecological contexts. His strong communication skills and deep knowledge of biological strategies and systems enriches the processes of design that are aimed towards innovation and high performance. His growing international activity in biomimicry related projects, including various locations throughout Mexico, the United States, and beyond, has positioned Juan as one of best specialists worldwide. The skills he offers are a key differentiator for the design and planning processes of architects, engineers, landscapers, urban planners, real state developers and industrial and product designers.

Juan has been featured in Fast Company (Biomimicry Challenge: TOA Uses Fungi to Reimagine Sustainable Neighborhoods) applying biomimicry to the concept of ecodistricts for city planning. Juan also led the design of a biomimicry exhibit for the Asteroide B612 Diseño regenerativo y balances ambientales exhibit at the Modern Art Museum in Mexico City experienced by over 50,000 visitors.

Juan holds a Bachelors degree in Biology from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. During this course of biological studies, Juan worked in a variety of research laboratories, including neuroscience, biotechnology, ecology, botany and mycology. To deepen the opportunity to apply biology, Juan also studied an MBA at the Universidad Iberoamericana as well as holds the title of Certified Biomimicry Professional from Biomimicry 3.8 following the completion of their inaugural two-year biomimicry training program. This unique coupling of educational endeavors compels Juan to relay his scientific foundation and passion for the environmental topics in a way that is complemented with his sensibility towards social and economical dimensions for each project.
